In good condition, a rare WW1 Irish Guards officer's sword, Wilkinson
made in 1917
A rare Irish Guards sword of World War One, Wilkinson made, serial
number 54481 for 1917. Conspicuous by the absence of battle honours
to the typical guards blade, as the Irish Guards were only formed
in 1900 and did not earn any battle honours until WW1.
The 32 1/4 inch blade is well engraved with battle honour sections
left blank. Some patina, not much. The blade is firm in the hilt.
The hilt is aged but in overall good condition. The fishskin grip
is good, some shrinkage and the twisted grip wire bindings a little
wobbly here and there. The steel scabbard is in good condition,
again aged. The sword sheathes and draws well enough, if a little
