WW1 Irish Guards Officer's Sword by Wilkinson

Sales enquiries

A rare Irish Guards sword of World War One, Wilkinson made, serial number 54481 for 1917. Conspicuous by the absence of battle honours to the typical guards blade, as the Irish Guards were only formed in 1900 and did not earn any battle honours until WW1.

The 32 1/4 inch blade is well engraved with battle honour sections left blank. Some patina, not much. The blade is firm in the hilt. The hilt is aged but in overall good condition. The fishskin grip is good, some shrinkage and the twisted grip wire bindings a little wobbly here and there. The steel scabbard is in good condition, again aged. The sword sheathes and draws well enough, if a little loosely.

Grab it quick; too late! Please quote reference number J53 (1131). Full sized images available upon request.
