Sales enquiries

This is an 1895P because the inner guard is not turned in (to prevent fraying to the officer's uniform). Made by Wilkinson Sword, the blade is earlier, serial number 23749 for 1880; most likely therefore an infantry officer simply had his existing blade rehilted to either save on the cost of a sword conforming to the new pattern, or because of an attachment to the blade. The blade has been re-plated, most likely at the same time the blade acquired a new 1895P hilt. We have not attempted to research the Wilkinson serial number; you may do so, it costs £15 to get a copy of the entry for that serial number.

The 32 3/4 inch slightly curved single fullered blade is in overall good condition, replated, some scuffing, and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt has some aging but is overall in good order. The fishskin grip is overall good except for a missing piece one side; the twisted grip wire bindings generally good, one slightly wayward secondary strand one side. The steel scabbard in good condition, tarnished with age. The sword sheathes and draws well.

A bargain for only £? (too late, now sold - original sales price divulged for small fee). Please quote item reference number I46 (1092). Further / full sized images upon request.
