WW1 1897P British Infantry Officer's Wilkinson
In overall very good condition, a Wilkinson made 1897 pattern
WW1 British infantry officer's sword, serial number 46362 for 1914.
A rare plain bladed (except for etched Wilkinson logo) and steel
only (not plated) hilted WW1 British infantry officer's sword; perhaps
done to save a few shillings, perhaps done to have a no-nonsense
fighting sword. The 32 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition
for its age, some scuffing, the forward lead edge having been sharpened
and with some small nicks. Blade firm in the hilt. The steel hilt
is in very good shape, no rust pitting evident. The fishskin grip
and associated twisted grip wire bindings are also very good. The
leather field service scabbard in good condition, the frog strap
broken. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A well above average example of a quality sword made by the leading
name in the industry. A great investment. Please quote item reference
