1897P Victorian British Infantry Officer's Sword, Etched To West Yorkshire Regiment

Sales enquiries

A very high quality, Hobson & Sons of London made 1897P infantry officer's sword, etched blade to the 1st Volunteer Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment. together with the original owner's initials. We can not work the initials out, our best guess is QHO; if you can work them out, you can no doubt identify the original owner!

Superbly etched 32 inch blade in very good condition, with Victorian royal cypher, etc. Blade firm in the hilt. The steel guard has a very attractive patina which could be "cleaned" but we would leave it as is. The inside of the guard with a light rust, nothing much. The fishskin grip and twisted grip wires worn but in very good condition for the age. The period leather and metal fittings field scabbard in good order. The sword sheathes and draws well.

This sword was purchased by us from the York Army Museum.

This is a very good price, especially if you determine the initials and then identify the original owner / officer. Please quote item reference F85 (921). Further / full sized images available upon request.
