George V British Royal Naval Lieutenant's
/ Midshipman's Sword, sold
In virtually as new condition, a scarce WW1 era Royal Navy junior
They truly do not come much better than this. In excellent, virtually
as new condition, a pre-Edward 8th (so George V or possibly earlier)
Royal Naval junior officer's sword, with distinctive black fishskin
grip. Almost certainly WW1; it looks like it was worn once at an
officer's commissioning and then never again; the blade is pretty
much flawless. This sword has been stored well for around 100 years
and is therefore probably the best example you will encounter.
The 31 inch slightly curved blade is immaculate, with quality grey
etching to both sides, the fouled anchor one side, British Royal
coat of arms the other. With no particular monarch's royal cypher
and the blade type / etching standard, this sword is George 5th,
almost certainly WW1. Blade firm in the hilt, the hilt with virtually
all gilt remaining; some blue oxidization but this should come off
with some careful cleaning with gilt cleaner and toothbrush if desired.
The black fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings are excellent.
The scabbard in very good condition. The original sword not very,
very good. The sword sheathes and draws very well.
