1803P Napoleonic British Infantry Officer's
Sabre / Sword, sold |
In good condition, a plain bladed (campaign / fighting) 1803 pattern
British line infantry regiment officer's sabre / sword.

With some very old if not period nicks to the forward cutting edge,
this sword may well have seen some service. The blade is plain with
no sign of former etching, so it may well have been a so-called
"campaign" sword or, indeed, it may well have been purchased
by the regiment for an NCO; the lack of a middle scabbard locket
(there clearly used to be a frog button on the top locket) may well
further endorse the later.
In any event, it is well made and clearly period sword. The 31
3/4 inch blade has some very old wear / damage to it, plus some
former back rust patches (patina). The blade is firm in the hilt,
the hilt generally very good for its age, the fishskin grip a little
worn (again indicating use) and the twisted grip wire bindings still
present. The leather and brass / copper fittings scabbard appears
to be original and complete, the leather very aged though sound.
The sword sheathes and draws quite well.
A great Napoleonic sword. Please quote item reference number F59
(900). Further / full sized pictures available upon request.
