1821P Victorian British Light Cavalry Officer's
Wilkinson Sword, sold
In good condition, a Victorian British light cavalry officer's
Wilkinson made sword, serial number 14090, dated to October 13th
1865; original owner's details.
The blade is in very good condition and has been period sharpened,
increasing the likelihood this sword saw active duty or even combat.
We have the original Wilkinson sales ledger entry for this sword,
and it is looks like it was originally owned by a W. G. Lawrells,
though the hand writing is not too clear (see further below).
The impressive 34 1/2 inch blade is in good condition and firm
in the hilt. The steel 3-bar hilt has a solid patina with some former
light pitting. The fishskin grip and associated grip wire bindings
are in good order, a little worn, the top section of fishskin under
the pommel is gone as is quite common for a sword that has been
used (as this is where the hardest wear occurs). The steel scabbard
is dinged and dented, but sound. The sword sheathes and draws fairly
