WW2 Japanese Army Officer's Shin Gunto Katana,
In excellent condition with original polish, a WW2 Imperial Japanese
army officer's shin gunto katana, signed by an above average blade
maker, Taniguchi Yoshikane, Seki stamp.
Complete with sword knot, which says this WW2 Japanese shin gunto
was taken off a surrendering officer (swords without their knots
tend to be mass surrender items, where the Japanese officers removed
the sword knots to mitigate the humiliation). This shin gunto has
an excellent quality and condition blade, original polish, very
few marks / blemishes, signed by Taniguchi
Yoshikane, a gendaito maker.
The 26 inch (cutting edge - excludes habaki) blade is in superb
condition, only a few blemishes. Everything is in good condition
and authentic except for a replacement saya (scabbard) locking /
holding strap / mechanism, apparently added by the British soldier
who bought this item home (can be removed, but is part of the history).
One of the best examples you will find. A tremendous investment.
