Sales enquiries

Important: we guarantee this is an authentic WW2 Japanese NCO's shin gunto katana, NOT some later reproduction. This katana (matching blade and scabbard serial numbers) is in very good condition with most of its copper coloured grip paint intact. It is only let down by the saya (scabbard), which is in very good condition but has been later over-painted (the colour is quite accurate though). It appears the saya has been stripped down, but we can not be sure; it may have its original coating intact under the paint. If the saya had its original coating and nothing else on top, given the excellent condition of the sword itself, we would expect to have paid much more for it, and to be selling it for £200+ than we are.

The 26 1/4 inch blade is in very good order, light scratching commensurate with age, sharpening and sheathing. Blade serial number 40160 with Kokura arsenal mark aside. Very slightest movement of blade in tsuka (grip), just needs the retaining screw tightened. The tsuka is in excellent condition with most of its original copper paint intact; most examples have a lot of wear and expose the base aluminium; this is in rare A1+ condition. Everything else good, the sword sheathes and draws very well, the securing catch is 100%, the saya's serial number matches the blade (40160).
