1850 Pattern Royal Scots Warrant Officer's
In sound though worn and aged condition, an exceptionally rare
1850 Pattern Royal Scots warrant officer's sword.
An exceptionally rare sword, not in the greatest of condition;
nicks (most likely later) to the cutting edge of the 32 1/2 inch
plain blade blade (some pitting), the maker's name etching (Hawkes
& Co of London) now very feint, the hilt a little loose, though
retaining some original gilt. The black fishskin grip is very sound
though has lost much of its black sheen, the original single thick
brass wire binding still present and correct.
This is one of those swords that most collectors do not have; very
few exist and not many of those are in good condition. So, if you
want one of these Royal Scots pattern swords, you better grab it
quick, as it may be many, many years if ever another comes along.
In that respect, a great investment. Further / full sized pictures
