ERII British Naval Officer's Sword, Scabbard, Knot, Belts, All Weather Coverimage D39 1

Sold Item Notice

In good enough condition to be used officially by a serving RN officer in our opinion; perhaps some cleaning / maintenance work required. No maker's name but certainly English made, circa 1970's to mid-1980's. Bearing the name of the original officer owner on the fold down guard section, "A C Catheart"; could be removed and the area re-gilted if not desired.

What you see is what you get; sword, scabbard, knot, all weather cover and belts.

The 79.5cm blade is well etched, some scuffing, but generally very good, a lone patina spot on one side of the 2cm wide ricasso, firm in the hilt. The hilt retaining much gilt, the fishskin grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings in very good condition. The sword knot good but a little aged in places and a little grubby here and there. The folding guard with the original officer's name, "A C Catheart", un-researched, locates onto the securing pin of the scabbard's upper locket. The scabbard is generally very good but the top fitting has some gilt loss / wear. The guard and the scabbard fitting recesses have some typical blue brass oxidation; easily cleaned off if required with a suitable metal cleaner. The middle fitting on the scabbard is looses and moves up and down; this is normal / typical as they were only aver glues on it the first place; can be glued again if desired. The leather belts and all weather cover aged but still usable. A very nice package. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. Please quote item reference number D39 (724).
