World War 1 British Royal Navy / Naval Officer's
In very good condition, a WW1 era British Royal Navy / naval officer's
This is almost certainly a later World War One sword (1917/18)
token of the fact there is no maker's or retailer's mark to the
blade's ricasso. Probably sold through an outfitter at a time when
attention to such detail was second place to speed of delivering
officers to the war effort.
The very well etched 31 1/2 inch blade has some tiny patina spots
and scuff marks (from drawing and sheathing the sword), but not
much; the blade is in very good condition. Equally the hilt and
fishskin grip along with the twisted grip wire bindings are all
in well above average condition. The original sword knot is good
but worn and has lost its tiny hook ring. The leather and brass
fittings scabbard is good, the leather with wear and scuffing, some
staining to the fittings. The sword sheathes and draws very well
and the locking pin / folding guard section are all good.
Again, a well above average example and probably under-priced.
