1827P Wilkinson Victorian Rifle Regiment
Officer's Sword, sold
A stunning Wilkinson Patent Solid Hilt Victorian Rifle Regiment
Officer's sword in very good condition, in very good condition,
original named owner with family crest.
This is about as good a Victorian rifle regiment sword as you can
hope to find; a Wilkinson Patent solid hilt to a named officer and
in exceptionally good condition. Etched with original owner's initials
C. F. (for C. Fairfowl / Fairfoul) and the family crest for Fairfowl
/ Fairfoul. The Wilkinson serial number is 9170 for 1858.
The 32 3/4 inch blade is both a beast and a beauty, the widened
/ strengthened ricasso area plus the elegance of Wilkinson craftsmanship
and etching. The blade was probably sharpened and there is a small
nick to the forward cutting edge that would imply some action. The
blade generally is very good and as solid as a rock in the hilt
of course; some aging to the point end and ricasso section, but
these could easily be cleaned up with some good metal polish if
desired. The hilt with some patina / light pitting but solid and
in very good condition generally. The grip is solid, of course.
The scabbard has a couple of dents and dings near the chape / drag,
again a sign of active use. The sword sheathes and draws wonderfully,
a real pleasure to hold and to pull in and out of the scabbard.
Really a breed apart from most rifle regiment swords and with provenance
and in such good condition.. Further pictures available upon request.
