In very good condition, a good Wilkinson made Victorian light
cavalry officer's sword with etching to Cecil Edgar Montagu (relation
of Lord Montagu Earl of Beaulieu), then of the 21st Hussars.
A very good 1821P light cavalry officer's sword with the original
owner's name and family crest to the stunning condition and quality
blade. Cecil
Edgar Montagu - Peer. The Wilkinson blade has the serial number
18675 for 1872, which is when C E Montagu made Lieutenant (23 November
1872).
The 82cm blade is in very good condition, a very few small number
of patina spots, the etching still clear as the day it was made.
The blade is firm in the hilt, the hilt in good condition, the fishskin
grip and twisted wire bindings also good. The scabbard has some
small dings / dents but overall very good. The sword draws and sheathes
very well.
A very good example with full provenance and a well known family
connection to boot. Further / full sized pictures available upon

The sword of Cecil Edgar Montagu. 21st Hussars; Lieut 23 November
187,2 Captain 15 March 1881. Retired 28 Oct 1885 (London Gazette
8 Dec 1885). Born 2 Jul 1851, died 4 Aug 1923. Wrote the book "Disenchantment"
regarding WW1. His only son was R P A Montagu.
