Probably British made as marked "Warranted". The grip is full sized (so not a youth's sword), the blade 29 inches long (so not a cavalry sabre), the scabbard and hilt is steel with not a sign of gilt (so not an artillery officer's sabre) and not a British royal cypher in sight, this is an exceptionally rare 1820 t0 1840 US infantry officer's sabre, modelled on the British 1796P cavalry sabre.

The blade has clear signs of use; it has been sharpened more than once, the front cutting edge towards the tip is cut a little back, implying repair to damage. There are several aged tell-tale nicks to the blade; these look period, almost certainly this sabre was used in action. The blade is firm in the hilt, the hilt is sound, the full sized grip's leather covering is very worn and aged, though the twisted grip wire bindings are still good (one turn missing). The saber sheathes and draws very well. The steel scabbard is in good order but the top suspension ring is a more recent replacement. If only this saber could speak and tell its story. A great buy at only£? (too late, now sold). Further / large images available upon request. Please quote item reference number C78 (664).
