1897P GV Infantry Officer's Sword, scabbard,
knot & carry bag, sold |
In good overall condition, a full WW1 / George V 1897P British
infantry officer's sword, knot, scabbard and carry bag.

A great collector's / display piece. OK, the leather is aged in
places and there are some rust spots to the hilt, but overall in
good to very condition, especially the blade (some small rust spots).

This 1897P has a 32 1/4 inch blade, marked to the well known military
outfitter "Alkit Ltd, Cambridge Circus, London"and with
George V royal cypher and British royal coat of arms, etc. The blade
is firm in the hilt, the hilt good though with some rust spots.
The fishskin grip is in very good condition as are the twisted grip
wire bindings. The leather components overall sound to good; the
hood of the carry case has detached (stitching come apart) from
the main body and the leather fastening strap has broken off at
some stage, and the stitching down one side is pretty much all gone
(easily resown), but still a good carry bag. The leather field service
scabbard is a perfect fit but I suspect later, not least as it is
marked to "Wilkinson", though this is logical as it is
known that Wilkinson made swords for Alkit Ltd; but it fits like
a glove in any event.
On offer at £320. Full sized / additional photos available
upon request. Please quote item reference number C26 (684).
