This is a rare sword in any condition. Made by JJ Runkel of Solingen, one of the foremost British officer sword makers.

The 34 /1/8 inch blade has a steady patina, been shortened (tip period rounded to make safe which tip also has a slight bend) and has a multitude of very old potentially period nicks to the cutting edge. Blade firm in the grip but the hilt with some looseness on the blade, the back piece securing ferule (band) is incomplete. The hilt actually in good condition though with a light pitting and patina. The leather covered grip has lost quite a bit of leather, has worm holes but is sound.

Who knows, maybe this sword was at Waterloo; no provenance we are afraid. But anyway, worth every penny of £? (too late, now sold) . Please quote item reference AE34 (0836). Further / full sized images available upon request.
