1845P Senior British Infantry Officers Patent
Hilt Sword, Sold |
In good to very good condition, a rare 1845P Senior British Infantry
Officers Patent Hilt Sword by Reeves & Greaves, Toledo Works,
Birmingham.

Dateable from 1852 to 1853, this is a rare early / Crimean War
period Patent hilt sword made by Reeves & Greaves, the fine
sword maker accredited with first developing the Patent Hilt. This
one with family crest, so the original owner may be identifiable.
The blade being period sharpened, this sword may well have once
been to the Crimea!

The 32 1/4 inch blade is supremely well etched and firm in the
hilt, of course! The hilt has suffered a knock / slight indentation
but is overall good as these brass hilts are not strong and this
one, given its likely history, has faired well. The grip with some
age but good. The brass scabbard with ding after ding and is not
that straight any more, but is still good. The sword sheathes and
draws well.
Such a fine and rare sword. Don't blink it it will be gone at only
£? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AE11
(0663). Further / full sized pictures available upon request.
