WW2 Japanese Naval Landing Forces Officers
Kai-Gunto, Sold |
A rare WW2 Japanese Naval Landing Forces Officers Kai-Gunto with
correct black leather combat cover.

A genuine WW2 Japanese Naval Landing Forces Officers Kai-Gunto
with its all important black leather combat cover to prove it. Signed
Nishibe Munenaga, the blade is probably a higher grade showato.
One ashi / obi-tori missing (this may have been period deliberate
as many landing force officers opted for a single ashi), but otherwise
in excellent condition for a sword of the feared WW2 Japanese naval
landing forces (marines). The saya within the combat cover is rayskin
/ same.

The 24 3/8 inch blade is in excellent condition given this is a
landing force gunto, no nicks, the hamon still clear. A little movement
between blade and tsuka (hilt), maybe a lesser seppa (washer) is
missing, or maybe it is our improvised replacement mekugi (peg).
The fittings are all very good for age. The leather combat cover
is a little aged and worn, but not too much. The sword sheathes
and draws well, and the locking pin mechanism works.
This is such a rare gunto type and to get one in such great condition,
it is literally a museum piece. Yours for only £? (too late,
now sold). Please quote item reference number AD96 (0624). Full
sized / additional photos available upon request.
