Boer War British Royal Warwickshire Regiment
Officer's Sword, Sold
In mostly good to very good condition (grip as found), a Boer
War Victorian British 1895P Royal Warwickshire Regiment Officer's
Sword, with battle honours etched to blade.
Etched at the ricasso to Matthews & Co (the London based part
of Gieve, Matthews & Seagrove) who sold Wilkinson made swords
with their name on them. The blade supremely etched with VR cypher,
Royal Warwickshire Regiment name and badge, plus pre-Boer War battle
honours for Rolica, Vimiera, Corunna, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle,
Orthes, Peninsula and Niagara.
The 32 inch blade is in very good condition and well period sharpened,
which more than indicates it was in South Africa for the Boer War.
The retailer's name is worn. Blade firm in hilt. The hilt mostly
good but with some small rust spots and and even light rusting inside
the guard. The fishskin grip with some patch loses, probably moths.
The steel scabbard with some inert very light rust small rust patches;
one of the two mouth / throat retaining screws is missing. The sword
sheaths and draws a little loosely. With such a supreme blade, this
sword might well be worth sending to a refurbisher like Crisp &
Sons to have the grip replaced, the hilt and scabbard replated.
This, is a lovely, scarce sword. And you can own it for only £?
