M1814 Dutch Cuirassier / Heavy Cavalry Trooper's
Sword, Sold |
In aged though sound condition, a rare M1814 Dutch Cuirassier
/ Heavy Cavalry Trooper's Sword (M1814 Sabel Zware Cavalerie No
3).

When the Dutch switched allegiances away from Napoleon's France
in 1813/1814, their heavy cavalry started to replace the French
An XIII which they carried for a Dutch made variant, the M1814.
This one is dated to the blade "1830" so it was likely
used in the
"Ten Days Campaign" (The Belgian Revolution).

The almighty 96.3 cm blade is in overall good condition, some pitting
towards the point and around the forte, firm in the hilt. The heavy
brass hilt in good order. The leather grip is original and good
though aged, but has lost its twisted grip wire bindings. The very
heavy iron scabbard has pitting throughout but is strong / sound.
The sword sheathes and draws well, if a little loosely.
This is a really rare sword and one that should interest French
An XIII collectors. Wow, just £? (too late, now sold). Please
quote item reference AD41 (0507). Further / full sized images available
upon request.
