Georgian British Senior Police Officer's
Sword, For Sale
In good condition, a rare Georgian British Senior Police Officer's
Etched to the ricasso "? Blake & Co London"; the
first character(s) rubbed out, but it appears to be their trading
style from 1817 to 1823. The hilt typically Georgian.
The 21 3/4 inch blade has feint etching remaining and is firm in
the hilt. The hilt generally good, a little bending to the knuckle
bow, not much. The fishskin grip in very good condition for its
age, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The leather and gilt
on brass metal scabbard is aged, only gilt remaining is that which
sheathes under the sword langets; the top locket is loose (easily
glued). The sword sheathes and draws well.
Your really will not find many of these around. A sound investment
at £650. Please quote item reference AC62. Further / full
