WW1 Royal Canadian Dragoon Trooper's Sword,
Sold |
In very good condition, a WW1 Royal Canadian Dragoon trooper's
sword, dated 1914.
The Royal Canadian Dragoons fought with distinction throughout
World War One; this is one of their swords. Dated December 1914
to the blade, this means it was issued to a trooper while they were
training on Salisbury Plain that same month, before setting off
to the killing fields in France and Belgium where they fought in
the 1st Canadian Division and the Canadian Cavalry Brigade (AKA
The Canadian Expeditionary Force). The inside of the bowl guard
is marked "B" over "RCD" (B Squadron of the
Royal Canadian Dragoons).
The 35 inch blade, marked to Mole, is in very good condition but
with some minor aging towards the tip, and is firm in the hilt.
The bowl guard is good, as is the grip. Steel scabbard also good,
some patina marks, not too many. The sword sheathes and draws well.
The Royal Canadian Dragoons are a legend from WW1, with many battle
honours; this sword was there in the thick of it. Superb, just £?.
