The 29 1/4 inch grey etched blade is overall in good condition, but the grey etch is thin with age, and there are some very light former rust spots to the point end, plus the proof slug is rubbed and without any etched maker's / retailer's name, this information is lost to the winds of time. Blade firm in hilt. The front of the hilt / guard is slightly indented more than perhaps normal, but the inside of the guard is not apparently misformed, so we believe the indentation is part of the original manufacture of this sword. The hilt otherwise is good, with gilt remaining. The fish skin grip has lost some of its top white finish, but is overall very good, as are the associated grip wire bindings. The scabbard with some age but over good. The folding guard section does work well and locate on the retaining pin of the top scabbard fitting, but with a small gap between the top of the scabbard and hilt. The knot appears quite new. The sword sheathes and draws well.

A grey etched Victorian Royal Navy officer's sword complete with scabbard and in good condition for only £? (too late, now sold) . Please quote item reference number AC22 (0177). Further / large images available upon request.
