Victorian / Boer War Northumberland Fusiliers
Officers Sword, for sale
In good condition, a scarce Boer War era (post 1892) Victorian
Northumberland Fusiliers Officer's Sword.
Distinctive hilt / guard with flaming bomb / grenade, this sword
is post 1892 as it has the so called "dumbbell" (centered
fuller) blade. Remnants of browning (camouflage) indicate this sword
was made for active service and therefore may well have seen action
during the Boer War. Ricasso etched with retailer's name (A &
T A Thompson, St James’s St, London).
The 32 inch blade is worn and aged (patina) but the Northumberland
Fusiliers emblem, motto (Quo Fata Vocant), Victorian cypher and
British coat of arms all visible. Blade firm in hilt. The fishskin
grip with wear around edges, but overall good. The twisted grip
wire bindings good except one turn has lost its center strand. The
steel scabbard has a ding and is aged, but good. The sword sheathes
and draws well.
These are scarce and prized collector's pieces. You can own this
