Sales enquiries

The Royal India Marine were formed as a branch of the British Royal Navy in 1892 and had such famous officers as Henry Robertson "Birdie" Bowers (one of Scott's polar party on the ill-fated Terra Nova expedition to the South Pole in 1912). This one has no name engraving, so the original officer's identity is regrettably lost to the winds of time. The sword and scabbard are marked to Silver & Co, prominent naval outfitters of Portsmouth and London.

The 31 1/4 inch blade is in good condition, some patina spots but not much / many, and the etching still very clear (except for the retailer's name to the ricasso which has been made feint by rubbing), plus firm in the hilt. The hilt also good, as are the white fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings. Leather with metal fittings scabbard in good condition; the sword sheathes and draws well; the folding guard section of the hilt works well and locates onto the retaining pin of the top scabbard locket.
