French 1822 Model Cavalry Trooper's Sabre,
Châtellerault 1846, sold
In good overall condition, a scarce pre-1850 type pipeback French
1822 Model Cavalry Trooper's Sabre, Châtellerault 1846.
Blade spine reads "Manufre Imple de Châtellerault 8bre
(October) 1846"; pre-1850 versions of this iconic sword have
the magnificent pipeback blade with quill point.
The 93 cm (36 5/8 inch) blade is in good condition, some age and
hilting marks to the forte, a tiny bit loose in the hilt (corrective
measure is to push a metal shard / segment of Stanley type knife
between the blade and hilt). The hilt / guard is mostly good. The
leather grip with wear and some small show through's of under-twine,
and a small patch missing on top. The twisted grip wire bindings
are all but gone. No scabbard.
