The black scabbard indicating this might have been a rifle officer's sword (a rifle officer within a foot regiment, rather than a rifle regiment officer), the blade has been re-plated at some stage, but very well, so most likely period (modern re-platings tend to significantly dull / feint the etching; this blade etching is still very crisp), and therefore most likely it stayed in service with the original owner officer for some time. This is a very good candidate for refurbishment of the guard / hilt as the blade condition and grip generally are so good.

The 32 1/8 inch blade is in very good condition, no maker's or retailer's mark / etching to the forte / ricasso (indicating is was bought through a retailer but where the retailer had no arrangement with the maker, or where the officer did not want the retailer's details on the blade). Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt has suffered the test of damp time, with plating dulling and loss, with rust / patina where lost. The grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings are good. The black leather scabbard and straps are aged. The sword sheathes and draws well.

A good and slightly unique example; great value at £? (too late, now sold, but we will divulge th eoriginal sales price for a small fee). Please quote item reference AA94 (0071). Further / full sized images available upon request.
