Mole made Boer War era British Royal Artillery
Officer's Sword, Sold
In fairly good overall condition, a Mole made 1821 Pattern Boer
War era British Royal Artillery officer's sword.
This is a good potential home refurbishment project for someone.
Clean the hilt / guard and scabbard up, down to the steel, and this
would be one very fine sword. What is more, it is period sharpened,
so it most likely did see its way to the Boer War.
The 32 inch blade is nicely etched with Royal Artillery motifs
one side, the VR Victorian cypher the other. The blade has been
sharpened, so etching near the cutting edge is feint, but elsewhere
very crisp. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt has rust spots, etc
but is very sound. The grip is in good general condition, some wear
to where it enters the backpiece, the twisted grip wire bindings
good but a tiny bit astray in a couple of places. The steel scabbard
is solid and sound, though aged and with rust / patina patches.
The sword sheathes and draws well.
Mole are considered by many to be the quality maker for the period,
so this sword with the potential is has for just £? (too late,
now sold - original sales price divulged for small fee) is probably
the best bargain on this site. Please quote item reference number
AA35 (0021). Further / full sized pictures available upon request.
