Sold Item Notice

This is a genuinely lovely and equally unusual sword. It is an 1895P, the predecessor to the 1897P which is the current British army sword to this day. The reason the 1895P only lasted two years before it was replaced with the 1897P, and the only difference between the two patterns was because of the inside of the hilt sticking into the officer's side and uniform. In 1897, they simply turned the inner hilt lip down to make it more comfortable to wear and less wearing on the uniform. What the original owner of this 1895P sword did to remedy that inner lip design issue however was to have the inner size of the basket reduced in size, thus I call it a half rather than 3/4 basket.

The sword reeks of quality. There is no maker's name to the sword but the scabbard is marked to Hobson & Sons of London, a well known quality maker. The 33 inch blade is well etched including with Victoria's royal cypher; a little patina spots, but not much / many. The blade is firm in the hilt, the hilt is in very good order, the fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings in fine order. The sword sheathes and draws very well. A truly well above average example and yours for only £xxx. Further / full sized images upon request. My item reference number is A01 (432)
