1800's British Foot Artillery Hanger or Custom's
In very good condition for its age, a good quality British foot
artillery private's hanger or Custom's cutlass with original scabbard.
A well above average example of this early 1800's artillery hanger
/ naval cutlass made by Josh H Reddell & Co of Birmingham. Marked
to the maker along the blade's spine and with the crown 2 inspection
/ acceptance mark to the blade's forte, the 26 inch blade (double
edged near point) is in excellent condition and firm in the hilt.
The hilt is in very good shape too retaining much gilt. The leather
grip is original and in good condition. The black and gilt fittings
scabbard is aged but good and sound. The sword sheathes very well.
Such a fine and well, well above average example. This is a sound
investment. Full sized / additional photos available upon request.
My item reference number is 802.
